This is a short film I made during lockdown in 2020. Whilst the world slowed down, for a while it seemed to tip the balance in natures favour. Each day of lockdown I began the practise of making a paper bird. Treating the paper with water and Indian ink, it was a meditative process. The birds seemed to be singing louder than usual, I was constantly aware of their presence. From the dawn chorus as daylight was breaking, to the caw of the rooks putting themselves to bed late at night. Comforting and beautiful and a reminder that ultimately it is nature who rules the roost however humans try to tame it. I was able to collaborate with my husband, animator and photographer, and my young son who is a musician.
