My practice invites you to connect with the energy of all that we come from; stars, earth, animals, plants and hidden stories we live and weave.
Creating a world where creatures and celestial bodies unite, adorned with animals as totems of hope,
symbols and surface pattern reflecting the elements, tactile textures embracing the passing of time and evoking layers of memory.
My paintings often depict decorative narratives that weave a tale and create warmth and wonder, inspired by irregular broken lines, symbols and imperfect patterns each telling a story held within the shapes and colours.
Inviting in myth and meaning drawn from ancient practices which are nurtured by nature, steered by the sun and stars, and where wildness is worshiped.
"When Maddy's work inhabits a space, it is offering a sense of connection, reverence and joy"

Working from an old flint barn under an ancient fig tree, I am surrounded by wildlife. A constant inspiration, with many bird and animal visitors.
Between downland and sea, the natural forms and textures all around me are shapes and motifs that are explored within my practice.
The weathered surfaces of chalk pathways, shapes etched into the landscape, flint, stone, pebble and bark weathered over time with the meeting of elements against their surfaces. The passing of time and tide reflected in the paintings, built up in layers on natural surfaces using wood, linen and handmade papers.
The imagery comes to play bringing life, narrative and movement, with the intention of showing a rich glowing landscape of images and creatures. The elements suggested in swirling line and gestural marks offering a vibrational quality to the surface.
Having travelled extensively I have a passion for handwoven tribal textiles and folk art, drawn to the imperfections, expressive nature and wandering lines which serve as inspiration in my work.

My website offers a selection of what I do, my artwork and shop. Feel welcome to email if you would like to make an enquiry, be it about purchasing work, licensing or mentoring.

"The Tiger was actually always asleep inside her,
she had seen it stretched out, drowsing and inert when she lay upon her side and stared for several consecutive days into a tall mirror that she had turned on it's side.
Her focus had penetrated all exterior till at last she could see within her a red glowing landscape of memory and poems"
Lorna Goodison, On Becoming a Tiger

With an original degree in Illustration I worked as an illustrator within publishing for many years.
With further training in printmaking, I exhibited my limited edition prints and licensed my work across design and greetings.
Wanting to share my passion for creativity I also set up an art mentoring business running busy workshops (alongside bringing up my two sons) and private art tuition.
I have finally allowed myself to work from my heart and paint. I do this with the utmost gratitude and delight.
My paintings are now finding homes in private collections in the UK, Italy, France and as far as China, whilst I am finding myself!
