About

Working from a flint studio sheltered by an old fig tree at the foot of the south downs in rural Sussex, surrounded by nature, Maddy aims to celebrate the energy of all we come from; stars, earth, animals, plants and hidden stories of the tales we live and weave.
With an original degree in Narrative illustration, she still relishes an element of story telling within her work.
Her art is the expression of her connection with the natural world, of the Myth and folklore connecting us to the ancient, or imagined and the stories that run deep through the land.
Maddy has also spent her life living with significant animals, horses, whippets, rabbits and cats and these are often featured in her work.
The work introduces textures and wandering lines reminiscent of chalk paths, trees weathered over time, marks hewn into rock and hand woven textiles. The chalk landscape that surrounds her is often reflected in carved white shapes. The paint marks offering a vibrational and textural quality to the surface.
When Maddy's work inhabits a space, it is offering a sense of connection, reverence and joy.
For those who celebrate wildness, beauty and playfulness!
